Celebrate National Children’s Dental Health Month

3 Ways to Celebrate National Children’s Dental Health Month

February is the month of love, but did you know that it is also National Children’s Dental Health Month? This month-long celebration of good oral health for children was started in 1941 by the American Dental Association as a one-day event and was extended to last the entire month of February in 1981. At Arizona Smile Designers we believe that knowledge is the basis for good dental habits, which is why we encourage our Cottonwood & Sedona dentistry patients to celebrate with their children throughout the month and beyond. Here are a few fun ideas to try.

1. Go Toothbrush Shopping

According to the ADA, toothbrushes should be replaced every three to four months. Sometime during the month of February, take your child on a trip to the store to shop for a brand new toothbrush. Let him or her pick out the color or design to add even more excitement to the daily routine.

2. Brush up on Proper Hygiene

If you typically let your child take charge of his or her own brushing and flossing, make it a point to supervise before bedtime. You may find that proper brushing habits are being skipped, and you may have to remind your little one of the correct way to care for one’s teeth.

3. Fill out a Chart

As part of the National Children’s Dental Health Month campaign, the ADA has released coloring pages and reward charts that help make brushing fun. Let your child pick his or her own chart, and once the goal is met, enjoy a special prize together.

While we at Arizona Smile Designers specialize in general and cosmetic dentistry, we also offer treatment options for young children in the Sedona, Camp Verde and Cottonwood areas as well. Contact us today at 928-634-8610 to schedule an appointment for your child’s next routine dental cleaning.
